As well as all this, Oakdene also has parking for two cars and a small, secluded garden with patio, accessible at the side of the property. The small village of Motherby is tucked away from the main hustle and bustle but still easily accessed from the M6 and A66, making it an ideal base from which to explore your surroundings. There are lots of local footpaths and bridleways to take advantage of straight from the front door. Why not walk to the neighbouring villages of Greystoke or Penruddock, where you can enjoy a meal at the pub before heading back. Enjoy a peaceful walk at nearby Eycott Nature Reserve or venture up Great Mell Fell or Little Mell Fell, both of which can be seen from the cottage. The starting point of the wallk is just a 10-minute drive from the cottage. Youll be rewarded after the climb with stunning panoramic views from the summit. For those with an interest in local history, spend some time exploring the historic houses at Dalemain and Hutton-in-the-Forest before heading to Lowther Castle, an intriguing facade of a bygone era. Head up nearby Askham Fell for stunning views of Ullswater. If youd prefer to be closer to the water, why not hire a boat or try some wild swimming? You can always hitch a ride on the stately steamer if youd rather somebody else did the hard work! Head inside Oakdene and youre sure to feel right at home. The accommodation is laid out over the first and second floors of the building. The kitchen is fully fitted with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, separate fridge freezer and microwave, as well as a full convection hob and oven. The dining table can seat six people bench-style or with the option of chairs for four people. The two further bedrooms and a second bathroom are upstairs on the second floor, both double rooms in size; the master bedroom with its super-king bed may be split into two singles on request. A tunnel under the road allows you to walk from the apartment into the village. Backbarrow enjoys a position on the banks of the River Leven and clues to this areas industrial heritage can be found all around. The ironworks itself is the site of the oldest ironworks ancient monument in the country, bordered by the River Leven on one side and Haverthwaite Heights to the rear. There are scenic walks from the front door down the river or onto the heights (great if you have a dog) which has stunning views across the Morecambe Bay a short walk away. Follow the river through the village to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to Lakeside, at the south end of Lake Windermere and a boat journey on to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. The village itself has a friendly local pub, and is only a 10-minute stroll from the busy village of Glenridding. Hike up St Sunday Crag or Dove Crag as the stunning views from the top are certainly worth the climb. Walk through woodland to find Lanty Tarn or head to the neighbouring hamlet of Hartsop where you can enjoy a walk at picturesque Brothers Water. Spend a day at, in or on beautiful Ullswater; enjoy a lakeside picnic, the well prepared can wild swim, hire a boat or hitch a ride on the popular steamer and let someone else do the hard work. Arnside is a peaceful village, overlooking the estuary of the River Kent and on towards Morecambe Bay. Stroll along the pier, a reminder of this quaint villages past as a bustling fishing port, and enjoy the stunning views over the water. There are plenty of local walks, from woodland rambles to the popular Arnside Knott which offers fantastic views over the area. Arnside itself has a handy railway station and a well-stocked village shop, as well as a few local eateries to try out too. Its located in the most beautiful, and the most peaceful valley in the Lake District, where there are more sheep than people. The narrow road meanders down the valley, following the little river, with fells flanking either side. If you arrive in the evening, youll see the fells behind bathed in a sunset glow. The farm track leads up to the traditional Cumbrian farmhouse with its stone floors, low beamed doorways and comfortable, stylish furnishings. The morning sun lights up the courtyard area to the back of the house making it the perfect place to take a morning cup of coffee, while the patio to the front is great from lunchtime onwards, watching the light flit around the mountains all around you. Every step has been take to ensure your comfort from relaxing on the sofas in front of the open fire to a convivial meal round the kitchen table by the wood burner to the feather duvets that adorn the beds. From the property, the Lake District is your playground. Seathwaite Tarn behind the house is a 30-minute hike away (and the place where you can get mobile reception). Beyond the tarn is a range of mountains, with Coniston Old Man at the end there. To the front of the house is Harter Fell, dropping down to the Eskdale Valley on the other side. The Duddon is great for climbing with many famous crags to go at. Or there are plenty of wild swimming spots in the river - the most popular of which is Birks Bridge, just a five-minute stroll away. A five-minute drive takes you to the steepest pass in England - Hardknott Pass leads you to Eskdale, or Wrynose Pass leads you to Ambleside. This is a superb house in a supreme location. Its one of the oldest farmhouses in this ancient valley and comes complete with wonky floors, low doorways and fabulous views! Open the front door into a wide hallway, laid with slate from Walna Scar - one of the surrounding fells. To the right is the lounge with its open fire and comfortable sofas. There is satellite TV and a selection of DVDs for you to borrow. The kitchen is spacious with electric oven, dishwasher and plenty of storage cupboards. The enormous fridge (with freezer drawers below) and microwave is in the utility room just beyond the kitchen (which also houses the washing machine and additional storage cupboards). Back in the kitchen, there is a small wood burner with a dining table placed by the window to take advantage of the stunning views of Harter Fell and Scafell beyond. There is also a handy cold room which used to be the old dairy. This still has the original slate work surfaces that have been here for hundreds of years. Its a handy space for storing drinks to keep them cool. A staircase with shallow stairs leads to three bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have king-size beds with luxurious feather duvets. They are also furnished with a chest of drawers and hanging space. The twin bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and fabulous views out to the garden and the fells beyond. The bathroom has a bath with an electric shower over. Outside is a feeling of space and yet more space. To the front of the house is a patio area with seating - its the perfect place to watch the sun go down, catching the very last rays of sunshine. To the side is an orchard with trees to climb. To the back is a small garden area with seating so you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning as the sun comes up. The barn next door is useful for bike storage and can be locked. A tumble dryer is housed here and there are logs for you to help yourself to (on an honesty payment basis). There are pegs on the wall to hang wet coats and even wetsuits if youve been swimming in the river below or the tarn above!

If you fancy an evening out, there is a wide choice of eateries to try, from traditional pubs to quirky restaurants offering signature cocktails alongside their delicious food. Take in a performance at the Theatre by the Lake or watch a film at the Alhambra Cinema. With fantastic walking opportunities from the door, you could try a different route every day without even having to get in the car.
