The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely 7-mile journey down to the sea - Irton Road station is also just five minutes walk from the cottage. There are five pubs in Eskdale with one, just a 5-minute walk away, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is just a ten-minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. There is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
