There are scenic walks from the front door down the river or onto the heights (great if you have a dog) which has stunning views across the Morecambe Bay a short walk away. Follow the river through the village to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to Lakeside, at the south end of Lake Windermere and a boat journey on to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere.
