Dogs Trust Launches National Dog Survey 2026

The UK’s largest dog welfare charity, Dogs Trust, is calling on dog lovers across the country to take part in its National Dog Survey 2026.

The survey, which takes around 15 minutes to complete, is open to anyone aged 18 or over living in the UK — whether they currently own a dog or simply love dogs. The charity says the information gathered will help improve support services, welfare campaigns, and resources for dogs and their owners nationwide.

Dogs Trust has used previous survey results to shape important initiatives, including behaviour support services, housing campaigns for renters with pets, and research into issues such as fireworks anxiety and responsible dog ownership.

According to findings from earlier surveys, more than 340,000 people took part in 2025, sharing information about over 420,000 dogs across the UK. The research revealed just how important dogs are in people’s lives, with many owners describing their pets as family members, best friends, and emotional support companions.

The survey also uncovered trends in popular dog breeds and names. Labradors remained the UK’s favourite single breed, while crossbreeds made up the largest overall group. Teddy and Poppy continued to top the charts as the nation’s most popular dog names.

Dogs Trust says the 2026 survey will help them better understand both the joys and challenges of dog ownership in modern Britain. Topics include daily life with dogs, behaviour, relationships with pets, future ownership plans, and concerns facing dog owners today.

The charity hopes the results will continue to influence positive change for dogs across the UK and provide valuable insight into the evolving relationship between people and their four-legged companions.
