Braithwaite is a sought-after destination lying at the foot of the Newlands Valley, on the edge of Whinlatter Forest Park and close to the shores of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake. Added to this, its just a short hop to the northern Lake District gem that is Keswick. The cottage is perfectly situated for making the most of the fell walking in the area, indeed you can walk up Barrow, Causey Pike or Grisedale Pike straight from the cottage. There is also a wealth of easier strolling to be done. Not least a charming bridleway along Newlands Beck, perfect for picnic and paddling days. For the foodies among you a highly-acclaimed restaurant is just up the road. The village itself boasts three pubs and a restaurant serving good food and local real ales, it also has a much-loved shop which is a hub for village life. All of this within easy waking distance of the cottage. Whinlatter Forest is an absolute must for visitors with miles of cycling and walking tracks, an excellent cafe, imaginative play park and a Go-Ape high ropes course where you can test your balance and head for heights on a series of exhilarating obstacles high up in the forest canopy. If you would like to explore the wider area then Keswick lies just 2 miles away. Its a vibrant market town with independent shops, good pubs, restaurants and cafes. Keswick has its own art deco cinema and the award-winning Theatre by the Lake not to mention a huge choice of outdoor shops and adventure companies ready to take you out and test your wilder side! Why not explore picturesque Derwentwater either by stately launch or under your own steam in a kayak or rowing boat? To explore a quieter side of the lakes you could head over Newlands Pass to beautiful Buttermere and Crummock beyond. Tranquil and stunning, these crystal-clear lakes are a heaven for wild swimmers surrounded by yet more staggering mountain landscapes. This charming 1930s detached house has fresh light decor and modern furnishings, making it an ideal holiday base for a family or friends to make the most of this lovely area. On arrival at the property guests enter through the front door. Inside there is a shoe rack, coat hooks and plenty of under-stairs space for all the bits and bobs youre likely to accumulate on your Lake District days out. The living/dining room is to your left. It has lovely modern seating arranged around the gorgeous slate fireplace where guests can enjoy the warming logburner on chilly evenings. Theres a TV with DVD player, a dining table and chairs and plenty of books of local interest thoughtfully left by the owner. Through to the kitchen which has bright modern units, a breakfast table and a lovely outlook to the garden and fell tops. It is well equipped with slimline dishwasher, under-counter fridge (with small freezer compartment), washing machine, microwave, fan oven and ceramic hobs. The bathroom is also downstairs and features a high pressure shower. The fresh light colour scheme continues upstairs. Firstly to the master bedroom. This has a double bed, a wooden dresser and two built-in cupboards with shelf and hanging space. The views from here are superb, you can see the summits of Latrigg and mighty Skiddaw in the distance. The twin room shares this gorgeous outlook to the rear of the house and has a decorative fireplace and a chest of drawers for storage. The single room looks out to the front of the house and takes in the imposing peak of Grisedale Pike and the edge of Whinlatter Forest. Perfect to inspire you to get out and about with that view as you open your curtains in the morning. Moving outside there is a lovely garden to the rear. There are gates to both sides of the house so the garden is enclosed however there are some small gaps in the fencing so its not entirely escape-proof. It boasts a lovely long sloping lawn bordered by flower beds with mature trees, shrubs and hedges around. There are even some blackberries about if you are lucky enough to be visiting when they ripen. The raised patio which stretches out from the back door at the kitchen makes a wonderful spot for outdoor dining, especially for breakfast on a sunny morning.
