Once a small fishing community, it now features a variety of family-friendly local stores and taverns in addition to its attractive fishing boats, sand dunes, and safe sandy beaches. The birthplace of Captain Cook, the mining museum, and the Zetland Lifeboat Museum are among the surrounding points of interest. This charming community is conveniently located near a horseback riding facility, the breath-taking North York Moors, which are crossed by a steam train line, and several charming inland and fishing communities, including Staithes and Runswick Bay.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
