Gunnislake is a small rural community that is on the riverbanks of the Tamar, which are heavily forested. There are some shops and taverns in the area. The settlement is located at the beginning of the beautiful Tamar Valley Railway, which runs along the riverbank all the way to Plymouth. Dartmoor, the beaches of the south and north coasts, and the sights of Cornwall's westernmost region are all easily accessible from here. The Dartmoor town of Tavistock, with its pannier market, pubs, and restaurants, is easily accessible, as is the charming maritime village of Calstock, celebrated for its arts and crafts and annual festivals. Visit the National Trust-owned Lydford Gorge, go on a wildlife safari through the Tamar Valley, or take a trip to the beach and scenic harbour at Looe (25 miles) - there's something for everyone. If you're looking for a unique day trip, take the Tamar Valley Railway into Plymouth to visit the amazing Marine Aquarium and the historic Plymouth Hoe.
