Between York City to the east and the city of Harrogate to the west is the historic village of Whixley. The village was once famous for its cherries, which were first picked to be preserved in the Priory of Knaresborough and afterwards sold as far away as London's Covent Garden. The Cherry House, Cherry Cottage, and Cherry Tree Farm are a few of the neighbourhood’s still-standing homes that serve as a reminder of the village's past. The Old Vicarage, The Church of the Ascension, and Whixley Park are some of the local attractions. The Victoria Cattal, a short drive outside the village, as well as The Anchor at Whixley are two dining options. The bustling cathedral city of York, home to the famous Betty's Café Tea Rooms, the eerie York Dungeon, and other attractions, is conveniently located close to the village.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
