Derwentwater, a beautiful lake at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley, is only a few minutes' walk from the town centre, and it also features miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing, and great mountain biking opportunities. Newlands Valley, situated between Braithwaite and Buttermere, is a nearby sight worth seeing, and Bassenthwaite Lake is also quite lovely. There are walks for everyone, from easy strolls through the countryside to strenuous climbs of Skiddaw or the well-known Catbells. Take a fantastic boat trip around Derwentwater, or check out Castlerigg Stone Circle, Jennings Brewery, and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake.
