Portland, Dorset and Somerset
Take a family holiday on the quirky island of Portland. This property is a Grade II-listed building, which has been lovingly restored and made into a charming cottage. Pack up your family and bring the dog for a trip where you can visit plenty of beaches, explore shipwrecks and learn about the tenacious spirit of the community. The front door leads directly into a cosy lounge. This room has a timeless feeling, and is very homely, with soft sofas and a wood burner, surrounded by exposed brick and wooden beams. Continue through to the kitchen/diner, which is wonderfully cosy. Head up to the first floor for a spacious bathroom with a free-standing bath, and a king-size bedroom. The final bedroom is on the second floor. It’s a pretty twin room with a vaulted ceiling, and it’s where the history of the building really starts to show. The property has a small patio with a bistro, a BBQ and some seating, and then outdoor stairs lead to the terrace. You’ll have a breathtaking view over the town and to the sea, and there’s lovely furniture so you can eat, drink, read, socialise or use the space however you choose. If you get cold, be sure to light up the fire pit. As this holiday retreat is on the beautiful island of Portland, there’s plenty to enjoy. If you do decide to head to the mainland, Weymouth is only 4.5 miles away, and you can drive there. Back on the island, the cottage is about 100 metres from the beach, so it’s easy to go for a dip whenever you fancy. For a bit of history, head to Church Ope Cove (2 miles) which used to be used by smugglers. You can enjoy fishing there or go wreck diving.
