There are superb walks from the village including the dramatic ridges of Whiteside and Hopegill Head and the gentler slopes of Fellbarrow. Loweswater and Crummock are a short distance from the village, both enjoying a calm atmosphere and beautiful mountain scenery. There is a small fishery just outside the village and the Coast to Coast cycle route passes close by. Lorton has a well regarded local pub, the Wheatsheaf, and a small village shop. Cockermouth is a 15-minute drive away. Here you will find all the main services and a good selection of independent shops. Keswick is within a 30-minute drive. There is a cinema and a theatre there, not to mention a wide selection of places to eat, activities to take part in and numerous outdoor shops. On entering the property, the front door opens into a small hallway. Off the hall is the kitchen with electric hob and oven, fridge, freezer, microwave and washer/dryer. There is an understairs cupboard housing the iron and ironing board. At the far end, the kitchen is open plan to the sitting room and dining area. There is a table and chairs by the window with doors opening out onto the patio area. The sitting room has comfortable seating on a sofa and two chairs, arranged around the multi fuel wood burner (initial supply of fuel provided). There is a flatscreen TV, DVD and CD player and good supply of maps and tourist information. Stairs lead from the hallway to the first floor bedrooms and bathroom. The double bedroom has wardrobe and drawers and the twin bedroom a dressing table and small amount of hanging space. The bathroom has a bath with electric shower over, WC and wash basin. Outside there is an enclosed patio area (shared with neighbouring cottage) to the rear of the cottage with a table and chairs and views to the fells. Parking is on the quiet rural street just a few yards up from the cottage.
