The national park is an outdoor lovers dream – head for a day out in the breathtaking Kielder Water and Forest Park (20 miles), where youll find the largest manmade lake in northern Europe and the biggest forest in England. Or spend an afternoon at Rothbury (15 miles), a pretty riverside town with independent shops. The National Trust property at Cragside (16 miles) is also well worth the trip for its perfectly manicured gardens, magical woodlands and Victorian stately home.
