A little further afield, Alnwick (15 miles), Northumberland’s largest town, boasts a world-famous castle with big and small screen credits. For coastal excursions, discover the golden beaches and charming villages of Alnmouth (17 miles), Warkworth (17 miles) and Amble (17.5 miles).
