Perfect for one or two families, or friends travelling together, this handsome stone cottage is located outside Nenthead, known for being England’s highest village and a former centre for silver and lead mining. Explore the self-guided trails that take you around the fascinating mining heritage centre, or head to Alston, 5 miles away, for a nostalgic trip on the South Tynedale Railway. Just 5 miles away, see the impressive Ashgill Force, a 5-mile-long waterfall. Head to Corbridge (23.5 miles) for its independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. This was once the most northerly town in the Roman Empire, and today you can walk along the original surface of its Roman high street and see the intriguing Corbridge Hoard, a Roman time capsule that was buried in the 2nd century AD. In the opposite direction, Pooley Bridge, 29 miles away, is a boarding point for the famous Ullswater steamers. This gorgeous farmhouse has been comprehensively refurbished, adding beautiful modern amenities yet retaining features such as exposed stone walls and attractive beams. Many windows have fabulous rural views. The front door leads you into a boot room where you can leave coats and shoes. From here, stroll past the first of the two staircases and through to the spacious lounge, where you’ll find a beautiful stone chimney housing a wood burner. Snuggle up on the comfortable seating and enjoy leisurely evenings with a box set on the Smart TV. This room leads into the superb kitchen, where the chef of the holiday will be well equipped with everything required to cook up a feast, as well as plenty of storage and worktop space. There is also an easily accessible bedroom situated on the ground floor with a king-size zip-and-link bed and an en-suite shower room, useful for guests who prefer not to use stairs. A handy WC completes this level of the house. On the first floor, leading off a corridor that joins the two staircases, you’ll find four handsome bedrooms; one super-king-size zip-and-link and a king-size that both boast en-suite shower rooms, a king-size zip-and-link, and a bunk room that’s perfect for little ones. All of the zip-and-link bedrooms can be made up as twin rooms on request. There’s also a sleek family shower room. Heading outside to your private garden, which is safely enclosed for children to play, you can enjoy meals alfresco and relax in the sunshine. If you fancy a bubbling soak after a day outdoors, head to the hot tub, which is situated within a garden room. You’ll also have access to another garden, which is shared with an adjacent property. There is private parking for up to four cars.
