This welcoming 18th Century stone-built cottage for up to 5 guests in 3 bedrooms is steeped in history and charm. As one of the oldest houses on the island, Britannia House still retains some of its original period features including beautiful oak beams and at the same time offers modern facilities to make your holiday relaxing and enjoyable. The front of the house overlooks the village green which is where a tree was planted by Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the island. The cottage welcomes one well behaved dog and has a wood burning stove, free guest Wi-Fi and a small patio area at the rear where you can enjoy a peaceful drink and plan your days out. Our third visit to Britannia Cottage, Lindisfarne in successive years. Accommodated family of 6 with ease, situated in a prime spot. The island is a tranquil place (especially when the tide is in) with flora and fauna in abundance. Lovely walks, historic places, lobster and dressed crab served to eat in or take away at the post office, mead and Craster kippers in the store across the street. Teas and restaurants to choose from. Beach 2 minute walk from cottage. This is a superb base on a lovely island. We needed no more. Thank you. The house was first recorded in 1792 on the oldest existing map of Holy Island. The house name originated from one of three ships that still lie as wrecks close to the Farne Island shores. It is believed a local resident recovered the ship’s name plaque and used it as the pub sign. A replica of the sign still hangs above the entrance. This cottage accepts one well behaved dog. Bed linen, towels, heating and hot water are included.
