This is the perfect base for a group of walkers keen to explore the Lake District. The flat’s in a pretty village called Rosthwaite, in the heart of the National Park, with excellent walking, beautiful lakes and stunning countryside nearby. There’s space for six people, plus their four-legged friends, and there’s a big garden. The apartment is up a steep cottage-style staircase on the second floor of Kiln How, a large, detached house in the middle of the village. It has four bedrooms: two doubles with lovely views across the fells and two cosy singles. All the bedrooms have restricted headspace because of the eaves. Along the hall is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with stunning views and comfy sofas to curl up in front of the electric fire and watch the Smart TV. There’s also a family bathroom. At the front of the house there’s a large garden with views across the valley where you can sit and chat to other guests about the day’s hike. Head from the door to the Cumbria Way, which wends its way through the Lakes and passes through Rosthwaite. If you‘re up for a challenge, Helvellyn summit is about 12 miles from the house. The quickest way up starts from Thirlmere, the longest route is up Striding Edge from Glenridding. You’re also close to Dale Head, another challenging hike but well worth it for the satisfaction and incredible views from the top (roughly 3.5 miles away). If you’re into fishing, Thirlmere (a 13.5-mile drive), Derwentwater (4 miles away) and Crummock Water (9 miles) are all nearby. The lovely market town of Keswick is 6.5 miles away with great shops and lots of lovely places to hang out and eat out.
