Alternatively, don your walking boots and get out and about on the fells surrounding the town. Theres everything from easy, family-friendly fells to Lakeland giants for you to try. Right on the doorstep you have a wonderful choice of things to do. Just across the street is the delightful Alhambra Cinema, an art deco treat of a building with current film releases and indie films regularly shown, while the wonderfully situated Theatre By The Lake is just a gentle stroll from the house. Of course theres also a fantastic range of pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops an easy potter from the door too. If youd like to explore further out of town theres plenty more to see and do. History buffs will be enchanted by ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle sitting high above Keswick and also Mirehouse, a marvellous stately home with literary connections situated along Bassenthwaite. There are two leather sofas for curling up around the fire and a Smart TV with Freeview and a DVD for entertainment. On the other side of the room there is a round dining table for four, ideal for post meal chats about your Lakeland adventures. Moving up the corner staircase from here youll find the spacious master bedroom. This has a king-size wooden bed frame, a wardrobe and dresser for storage along with a lovely sash window with a view to the nearby church spire. The twin room is across the hall which also shares the same rooftop view which you can enjoy from its window seat. It also has a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom is also on this floor. Despite that, it’s just a 10-mile drive to tranquil Loweswater and just beyond lie Crummock and Buttermere. Around these beautifully picturesque lakes you’ll find some of the most glorious walking in the area, not to mention some fabulous pubs! The Solway Coast is also just a 15-mile drive away. This part of the county has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its abundant bird life, quiet seaside towns and stunning sunsets. It is most definitely worth a visit! The historic coastal town of Workington is a 4-mile drive away with its two theatres, bustling shopping centre, cinema, trampoline park, museums, and parks. The cottage is perfectly placed for some of the best fell walking opportunities in the Lake District, whether you would like to tackle mighty Scafell Pike, Englands highest mountain, or some gentler family-friendly fells such as Irton Pike. Santon Bridge is a small hamlet situated in the Wasdale Valley. The crystal-clear River Irt (which flows from Englands deepest lake, Wastwater, to the Irish Sea at Ravenglass) runs through the village offering paddling opportunities aplenty. The hamlet also boasts a well renowned pub, which is home to the annual competition for The Worlds Biggest Liar just down the road from the cottage and a gorgeous cafe with a craft shop less than a mile away. You are also handily placed for the beautiful valley of Eskdale. A special little place with a fantastic choice of pubs and a wonderful narrow-gauge steam railway locally known as the Laal Ratty which chuffs gently through the valley out to the coast at Ravenglass. Rather than heading inland to the fells why not head out and explore this lovely coastline. Theres Ravenglass less than 5 miles away, a beautiful little village with a rich history and a gentle atmosphere all of its own. On the edge of Ravenglass is the historic gem of Muncaster Castle, a great day out for all ages with stunning grounds and a 700-year-old castle with legends to pique your interest time after time. You can take the coastal path from Ravenglass to Drigg or Seascale which takes you through a wonderful 11km dune system which plays host to a fantastic array of flora and fauna and makes a great place for a picnic or watching a sunset. Sleeping 4 guests in 2 bedrooms, plus one lucky dog, this welcoming holiday home was originally formed part of Linbeck Farm from the 1600s, with the ground floor bedroom then as the byre. A pretty French door has now replaced the doorway previously used for returning cattle. The history of the original site dates even further back, with ‘lin’ meaning flax and ‘beck’ meaning stream, providing an indication of what was produced in this idyll situated just three miles from the picturesque valley of Eskdale. The views from this 18-acre child and dog-friendly smallholding are unrivalled. A plantsman’s garden has been lovingly raised from seed, producing soft fruit and featuring rare rhododendrons from China and Nepal. The garden is shared with the friendly owners (who live in Linbeck Farmhouse), as well as their hens, horses and pig. The garden is rich in wildlife including red squirrels (who love to race up and down the Ash tree!), jays, woodpeckers, great tits and blue tits. The immediate area offers limitless opportunities for climbing, cycling and walking, with over 30 climbs of varying difficulty (graded Diff to E3) just on Brantrake Crag behind the cottage. It is a superb base for exploring this scenic part of Cumbria or for just relaxing and watching the weather go by from the warmth of your four-poster-bed! Nearby Muncaster Castle has beautiful gardens and a wonderful owl sanctuary. Ravenglass on the coast has an interesting Roman history and is the main departure station for the famous La’al Ratty miniature steam railway. Wastwater is six miles away, framed by the magnificent fells of Great Gable and Scafell Pike, the latter of which is the highest mountain in England and can be seen in all its magnificence from the cottage. This welcoming holiday home at Linbeck is wheelchair friendly for guests with reduced mobility. The main living quarters (kitchen, lounge, bedroom) are situated on the first floor, accessed from steps at the rear of the property. The open-plan layout feels spacious, social and full of original character. The oak and slate-furnished kitchen contains a split level electric oven, four-ring electric hob, microwave, dishwasher and a large American-style fridge/freezer. The dining table seats up to six guests. Two two-seater leather sofas as well as a three-seater sofa provide plenty of space to relax. The Smart TV has a full Sky package, as well as a facility to login to your Netflix or Prime accounts. There is a separate WC, as well as an abundance of books and games. The double bedroom on the first floor features a fabulous four-poster-bed, with an even more fabulous patchwork quilt (created by Joy, who previously lived here - see if you can spot her signature!). The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, WC and wash basin. Scafell Pike can be seen from the bedroom on a clear day. Downstairs, on the ground floor, is a second double bedroom suitable for guests with reduced mobility. The room has a large Smart TV with Sky, two external doors and a huge walk-in wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has a low entry shower, heated towel rail, WC and wash basin. In terms of the cottages suitability for wheelchair users with reduced mobility, there is access to the ground floor bedroom via a flat threshold (with a small lip); the ground floor bathroom is en-suite and has a low entry shower; the living area and kitchen can be accessed via the outside. The owner has a wheelchair and a toilet raiser for loan upon request. A washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in the stable (ground floor, outside), along with a Belfast sink, perfect for rinsing off muddy outdoor gear. Bicycles can be stored here or locked securely in the workshop. There is space for parking up to two cars next to the property and the garden is shared with the friendly owners, who live next door.

This is a cosy cottage with homey feel, full of charm, character and original features, sleeping up to four people and two dogs. Just up the road from the legendary George Fisher outdoor equipment shop, the cottage is perfectly located for enjoying all the Keswick amenities whilst being tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, with the rarity of having its own private parking and lockable shed/bike storage. A two-minute walk from the cottage is Keswick town centre. Keswick is a jewel in the northern Lake Districts crown situated on the shores of the incredibly picturesque Derwentwater. Its a vibrant market town with a wonderful atmosphere where you can indulge your wild side with any number of adventurous outdoor activities or pamper your taste buds with a huge range of eateries offering great local food and Cumbrian real ales. The walking and cycling on offer here is second to none with paths and tracks to suit those in search of gentle picturesque strolls or Lake District giants such as Skiddaw to climb if youre feeling more energetic. Derwent Water, Castle Crag and Walla Crag are all within walking distance of the property. You can catch a bus (or walk) into the Borrowdale Valley just by turning right out of the front door. The renowned Theatre by the Lake has a varied programme throughout the year and the Alhambra Cinema shows mainstream and alternative cinema throughout the week. The delightful little refurbished cottage is situated at the end of a terrace of similarly charming houses on The Plosh, a moderately quiet road leading from Keswick into the Borrowdale Valley. The cottage is accessed from the side via a stable door (useful for containing the dog in the summer), which leads directly into a small but well-planned kitchen, in which an electric oven and ceramic hob, mircowave, under-counter fridge/freezer and washing machine are situated. The kitchen looks out onto the enclosed yard with seating for four people and an ideal place to relax after a long day on the fells. A lockable cupboard is located just around the corner where muddy boots and walking gear can be stored The kitchen leads into the small and cosy dining and living area, which features a welcoming open fireplace. A corner settee seats three to four people and there is a comfy armchair from which to view the FreeSat TV, which also has a built in DVD player. The owner has thoughtfully provided some DVDs, books and board games should you require additional evening entertainment. A shower room with basin and WC are also to be found on the ground floor. In addition to the original oak beams, the spiral staircase is one of many characteristic features of this lovely cottage. It may not be suitable for young children or adults who struggle with their balance, but it certainly turns the ascent onto the next floor into a bit of a mini adventure...! Fear not night time stumblings to the bathroom, however, as there is another shower room with basin and WC situated on the first floor. There is also an external staircase to the first floor if preferred.* In keeping with the rest of the cottage, the bedrooms are bijoux, full of character and have lovely soft furnishings. The double bedroom contains a double bed and a double wardrobe; the two singles in the twin room can be pushed together and made into a king-size bed upon request. It also includes a chest of drawers and a small hanging rail with wooden hangers. Outside is a small enclosed yard with seating for four people and easily accessible private parking for one car. Whilst enclosed, we cant guarantee that this will be escape-proof for the more determined and agile dogs but two well behaved dogs are permitted. * The spiral staircase may not be to everyones liking, but there is a brick staircase outside (just two steps from the side door) that leads from the yard to the double bedroom on the first floor. It is quite an unusual arrangement, but may be appreciated by those for whom the spiral staircase doesnt appeal.

Set right in the heart of the much-loved Lakeland town of Keswick, this is a luxurious and comfortable base from which to explore this wonderful area. Refurbished to a very high standard and boasting stylish, contemporary decor throughout, its a wonderfully comfortable haven for up to four people. One of a small row of Victorian terraced houses the cottage sits just less than 100 metres from the lovely pedestrianised town centre. Guests will find a lovely choice of cafes, restaurant and shops literally on the doorstep while the beautifully situated Theatre By the Lake and Keswicks own art deco cinema are just a short walk away. Twice a week the town hosts a market and throughout the year there are exhibitions festivals and events to enjoy. Keswicks position, nestled on the shore of picturesque Derwentwater, is absolutely glorious. The choice of fell walks from the door is marvellous with everything from mighty Skiddaw, Englands fourth highest mountain, to lower level fells such as Walla Crag and Latrigg all walkable from the door. Alternatively, guests can take the gentle potter down to the lake shore and perhaps catch one of Keswicks lovely launches which wind their way gently round the lake. Why not walk along the lake into the jaws of beautiful Borrowdale, have a delicious lunch at one of the lovely hotels or cafes then catch the launch back to Keswick? How very civilised. The cycling in the area is second to none with a fantastic choice of off-road adventures to be had for the mountain bikers among you and some of the most iconic road cycling in the country in fact a stage of the 2016 Tour of Britain went past the cottage. Keswick is also well known as the adventure capital of the Lake District. Every possible outdoor activity is catered for here from rock climbing to ghyll scrambling, via ferrata to paddle boarding. Theres a wealth of outdoor companies to guide your adventures, as well as two marinas and indoor climbing walls. Families are well catered for with a leisure pool with huge slide, an excellent playground and lots of activities nearby such as The Lake District Wild Animal Park and Whinlatter Forest Park. Perhaps youd just rather snuggle up around the wood burner in this gorgeous house and enjoy a good book!
