The East Wing of High House Farm offers very attractive accommodation as part of High House Farm, a wonderful stone built former farmhouse, close to the coast and not far from East Portlemouth and Salcombe on the other side of the estuary in South Devon. A few years ago, the remains of a mysterious ship were discovered just off Salcombe in Devon, along with a huge hoard of treasure. This treasure links the ship to a time, 400 years ago, when pirates from North Africa's Barbary Coast were making daring raids and people were taken from villages all along the south coast of Britain - to be sold into slavery.  And so the story goes that the courtyard walls of High House Farm were built as a defence against these piratical raids!  A peaceful spot now, this most interesting and unusual 17th century house, is steeped in history within its ancient walls and much of the original character has been retained. Beautiful and rare early 19th century ship wall drawings were discovered during the renovations, one has been carefully preserved and is a treat to discover when renting this most attractive, spacious farmhouse that has been modernised and refurbished to a high standard. 1 mile from East Portlemouth, a ferry ride across the estuary to Salcombe, High House Farm is well placed to enjoy this glorious area of the South Hams, with its breathtaking footpath views, sandy coves and the proximity to the lovely beaches of Gara Rock, Millbay, Sunny Cove and the popular sailing mecca of Salcombe. A short walk away is the newly opened Gara Rock Restaurant for ice creams, drinks, breakfast, lunch, tea or evening meal, with stunning panoramic views over the coastline and beach. The house has a games room and a meadow with a Shepherd's hut where you can enjoy refreshment and shade whilst taking in the vista. There is a barbecue, picnic table and viewing mound to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over the sea. Just a moment - is it a mirage, or do I spy a skull and cross bones sail on the horizon....?!

“Excellent accommodation with magnificent walks so close. Very tastefully decorated and well kitted out. Thanks for a great stay.”
