Acton Burnell, Heart of England
This pet friendly, barn conversion cottage on a working farm sleeps 4 people in the Shropshire village of Acton Burnell just 7 miles from the historic market town of Shrewsbury and is just a short drive from Bridgnorth and Ironbridge.
Virginia Cottage is a dog friendly holiday cottage.
Virginia Cottage was originally a barn set on a working farm. It has been converted to provide accommodation for groups of up to 4 people. The conversion has been undertaken with great care and the cottage retains much of its original character through features such as a wood-burning stove in the lounge. The decoration is modern, yet comforting and the property backs onto a private patio from where you can absorb the rolling scenery or enjoy a spot of summertime dining. Walks are available through the farm and the cottage is located close to other walking trails. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the local shops are 2 minutes away on foot and the local pub is 4 miles away.
The pretty little village of Acton Burnell is set in rolling farmland a few miles from Shrewsbury and takes its name from Robert Burnell, famous for building the lovely castle and church here in the 13th Century. Robert Burnell, who built the castle, also built Acton's Church of St Mary, which is still in use and remains one of the most complete 13th century village churches in Britain. Acton is well-placed to explore further Shropshire attractions, such as Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Attingham Park and Shropshire's capital: Shrewsbury. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities, especially amongst the historic Shropshire Hills.
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Short breaks may still be available.
