Attractions nearby include Thorn House and Garden, Mothecombe beach, if you want to bathe without the crowds and Plympton Castle, built in the 12th century. Interestingly, Yealmpton is home to Mother Hubbard's Cottage from the nursery rhyme, formerly the home of the housekeeper at Kitley House, who was the muse for the story.
