The historic, medieval Somerset village of Montacute is four miles from Yeovil and most well known for the National Trust's impressive Montacute House, a stunning Elizabethan mansion built for Sir Edward Phelips, the prosecutor of Guy Fawkes. The house is set in beautiful gardens and has been widely used as a film set, notably in 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'Wolf Hall'. The village centre and conservation area features an array of picturesque hamstone cottages, two thriving pubs, a Post Office, and a fascinating radio and television museum. Locally, there are lovely walks to be had to the nearby Ham Hill and St Michael's Hill where a folly affords wonderful views across the Somerset Levels and beyond. The nearby bustling town of Yeovil provides a wide variety of shops and restaurants as well as a lively theatre. Alternatively, enjoy a day out at Yeovilton's Fleet Air Arm Museum, or Haynes Motor Museum, explore mystical Glastonbury, or the UK's smallest city, Wells, with its majestic cathedral. With ancient Sherborne and the scenic Dorset coastline both easily accessible, you will find that a week is not nearly long enough to enjoy everything on offer within a short drive of this lovely Somerset village!

Somerset offers 3 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers’ market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury.
