Located on the border between Wales and England and not far from the remarkable Offa's Dyke, this fascinating market town is a beautiful blend of old and new, from the ruins of an ancient castle to the bustling weekly market. The town's prime location at the meeting point of three rivers—the Wye, the Monnow, and the Trothy—makes it an ideal home base for those interested in river boating, scenic walks, and a little shopping, as well as those who simply wish to unwind by the river while watching the local rowers race and hone their craft. Besides being the birthplace of Henry V, Monmouth is also home to interesting historical sites including the Nelson Garden and a mediaeval bridge spanning the Monnow River that dates back to the 13th century (the only one of its kind in Britain). Even though it's a very small town, there's a surprising number of exciting attractions here. Short drives will take you to the historic towns of Usk, Abergavenny, and Ross-on-Wye, as well as the breath-taking landscapes of the Brecon Beacons, Forest of Dean, and Wye Valley. An ideal spot that caters to visitors of all ages.
