Between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal, in the region known as Shropshire's Lakeland, is the charming market town of Ellesmere, with its Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian structures. This tranquil town, which was formerly a fortified Anglo-Saxon village, is rich in history. It has a beautiful church with a roof that dates to the 15th century, and Thomas Telford lived there when the canal system was being built in the late 18th century. The town also offers a good selection of stores, bars, and eateries, as well as a tonne of entertainment on and near the nearby meres. Explore Colemere Country Park with its excellent animals and picturesque trails, take a stroll through Cremorne Gardens, go fishing or boating, spend some time there, or take a walk along the canal. a beautiful setting with something for everyone all year long.

A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
