Alnmouth, located just 5 kilometres (3 mi) east of Alnwick, is a picturesque resort that attracts golfers and those in search of a tranquil vacation. The village served as Alnwick's port in the past because of its prime location on a peninsula between the river and the North Sea. The area has been restored to its natural state and now features a wide selection of stores, eateries, a world-class "links" golf course, fantastic rivers for fishing, and countless miles of beautiful beaches and sand dunes with panoramic views of the North Sea. After a short drive, you'll reach Alnwick, known for its historic castle, the Poison Garden at The Alnwick Garden (where you can take tours of poisonous plants) and its many eateries and bars. You'll find that Alnmouth serves as a great base from which to explore the rest of Northumberland.
