Mary Tavy gets its name from the 13th-century St. Mary's chapel and the surrounding River Tavy. It's located in the Dartmoor National Park, near Tavistock. The community once housed the world's largest copper mine, Wheal Friendship, as well as lead and tin mines. The community has a Post Office and a tavern, The Mary Tavy Inn, where you may have a meal and a pint. Take a stroll along the gorgeous shoreline, or explore the National Park. Home to 368 square miles of natural delights, Dartmoor National Park boasts a plethora of walking and cycling routes through steep wooded river valleys to enticing archaeological sites such as Spinster's Rock, Grimspound and Higher Uppacott. Outdoor activities include canoeing, climbing, geocaching, and more. Visit the award-winning market town of Tavistock, the only town in Devon to possess world heritage status. This beautiful town is home to a popular indoor pannier market, a broad selection of shops, an outstanding choice of pubs, bistros, restaurants, a theatre, and a cinema, as well as a leisure pool. The National Cycle Route 27, Drakes Trail, and the West Devon Way to Plymouth are all easily accessible. Visit Okehampton, the walking centre of Devon, to see a Victorian shopping arcade, the Museum of Dartmoor Life, a lovely park, and the second oldest Norman Castle in the county. Mary Tavy is a great location for exploring Plymouth, Exeter, Torquay, Paignton, and the Tamar Valley AONB.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
