Haverfordwest, Mid Wales
Set off exploring the wilds of Pembrokeshire from this well-presented and always cosy cottage. Accommodating four guests in the utmost comfort, this pet-friendly property lends itself wonderfully to a small family seeking hiking, biking, boat trips and water sports excursions. The seaside village of Solva is just 3.5 miles away, a place with a stretch of beach that appears at low tide, ample opportunities for crabbing and fishing and cute streets lined with pastel-coloured fishermen’s cottages. The seemingly endless Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches either side from the village, in total offering 186 miles of incredible scenery and beachy delights. Slate flooring, exposed stonework and low-hanging beams add to the provincial charm of this country place, all kept cosy with home-from-home elements and soft furnishings. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner acts as a hive of activity on the ground floor, always kept warm and inviting thanks to the electric wood burner-effect fire on one side. Clearly defined spaces invite you to cook, dine and relax in this ever-appealing room. Moving upstairs, a double and two single bedrooms lay waiting for restful nights filled with uninterrupted dreams. At the back of the house, you’ll find a cute grassy garden that’s entirely enclosed, perfect for letting children and pets play. A must-visit in this part of Pembrokeshire, the city of St Davids is close by (6 miles) with its ancient streets, historic architecture and independent boutiques aplenty. Also in this direction, make your way to the enviable, pristine beach of Whitesands Bay (8 miles), one of the best surfing beaches in the area. Wander up to a vantage point at the craggy Carn Llidi and gaze down at the stunning arc of sand, watching waves build and break as surfers, canoeists and bodyboarders traverse the waters.
