2 Bedroom Bed in Bardon Mill (88032)

Recharge your batteries at this two-bed rural retreat on a working farm deep in the Northumberland countryside. A former gamekeeper’s cottage, it’s been thoughtfully restored to offer excellent facilities but retains a cosy vibe with characterful features. Birds and wildlife abound in this remote location and there’s excellent stargazing at night. It would suit a couple or small family with up to two doggies – as long as you like peace and quiet. Don’t forget the quirky touches – peacocks and giant chess on the lawn, anyone? A warm welcome awaits in this comfortable cottage. The open-plan living accommodation works well, comprising a lounge, kitchen and dining area in one bright and airy space. Exposed wooden rafters and floorboards, cottage-style doors and the wood burner in its stone fireplace give it an authentic feel, but all the fixtures and furnishings are top spec and modern. A downstairs super-king-size bedroom is spacious with neutral decor and a chunky four-poster for a touch of grandeur, especially with its Jack and Jill en-suite bathroom starring a roll-top bath. Upstairs, another bedroom nestles in the eaves, complete with Velux windows in sloping ceilings and beams. Its super-king-size zip-and-link bed can also be a twin and its en-suite has a whirlpool bath for luxurious soaks. Outside, garden furniture and a fire pit await for stargazing and dining alfresco on a patio area. The garden isn’t fully enclosed and the owners allow access to their extensive grounds too. It’s all about the Great Outdoors here, thanks to the idyllic location. You can hire electric bikes during your stay or walk for miles. Explore the acres of open gardens, woodlands and countryside where you are or head out to Hadrian’s Wall, within 2 miles, as is Greenlee Lough Lake. The Roman forts and museums at Vindolanda (3.5 miles) and Housesteads (5 miles) are fascinating.

The Keepers Hideaway is a dog friendly holiday cottage.
