Situated in the village of Eskdale Green, this charming cottage is perfect for families, walkers, and nature lovers wanting to explore the beautiful local area. There are two pubs and a shop nearby, and lots of pretty walks right from the door. The spacious cottage has a fascinating history. Built by Outward Bound founder Kurt Hahn in 1882 it still boasts many original features. There’s plenty of space to relax in the lounge with wraparound seating, a cosy wood burner and a 50” Smart TV. The snug, which has a second wood burner, is the perfect place to sit with a good book from the wall of book shelves after cooking a feast in the country kitchen and enjoying it in the separate dining room. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, a king bedroom, and the family bathroom. There’s storage space for your bikes and kayaks on the lower ground floor as well as a washing machine. Outside is a large enclosed with a summerhouse, patio, and lawn for all to enjoy. The walking routes nearby encompass every landscape, length, and level of difficulty; from woodland strolls to demanding technical climbs. Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, is about 9 miles from Eskdale Green. There’s a less challenging but equally lovely walk to Stanley Ghyll Force waterfall (5 miles away) and many more close to the house. Burnmoor Tarn on Eskdale Fell, a 5-mile walk or 9-mile drive, is a good spot for wild swimming in the warmer months; it’s generally quiet and has amazing views. Hop on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway miniature railway ‘La’al Ratty’ at the village station, which wends its way through spectacular scenery. Call in to one of the village pubs for a quick drink or a bite to eat on the way home.
