Just 3 miles away, the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum is a great day out, with tours taking you on an underground railway. Tackling the Skiddaw and Blencathra ranges are not for the faint-hearted and the mountain trials at Whinlatter Forest Park will delight the mountain bikers amongst you. For a spot of retail therapy head to Keswick (6 miles), where there is a great choice of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants all on the banks of Derwentwater.
