Only metres from a sandy beach, this coastal retreat is perfect for families who want to explore South Northumberland. Tucked away in the peaceful town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, this property offers you a seaside location without the crowds. Only a few hundred metres from the sea front and esplanade, you have a choice of eateries and shops on your doorstep, as well as a sandy beach to keep the kids happy. Looking across the bay, you can watch the sunrise, marvel at The Couple, a sculpture out on the breakwater, and keep an eye out for marine animals. This beautifully refurbished fisherman’s cottage is light and airy throughout with plenty of charm. Although modest in size, it has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay. You enter into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can cook up some treats, snuggle up in front of the wood burner or gather around the table for a meal or a game. After a busy day exploring, head upstairs to tuck your kids into the quirky bunkroom before retiring to your well-presented king-size bedroom. Completing the accommodation is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath. Newbiggin-by-the-Sea has lots to discover, including the Maritime Centre Museum and Cafe, or 2.5 miles away is the Woodhorn Museum which digs into Northumberland’s mining past. Unspoiled, sandy Cresswell Beach (5 miles) is also worth a visit or, if you’re birdwatchers, head to Druridge Bay (11.5 miles) which is a haven for nature lovers. Amble (13.5 miles) has a range of shops and eateries including the unique wooden retail pods in the Harbour Village. It’s also home to an annual Puffin Festival which celebrates the cute ‘clowns of the sea’. You can also walk 1.5 miles from here along the River Coquet to Warkworth Castle.
