Head straight out across the magnificent Lake District from this exceptional barn conversion at Bassenthwaite. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway sits in beautiful rural surroundings, 7 miles from Keswick and 9 miles from Cockermouth. In a great location for discovering scenic Bassenthwaite Lake, it is also well placed for Derwentwater. The single-storey retreat also welcomes canine companions, making it ideal for a small family or couples with a pet. Make your way into the barn, which adjoins another holiday home, and enter to find yourselves in an open-plan lounge/diner, with beams and white-washed stone walls. Settle on the comfortable seating in the lounge area to rest and recuperate after your latest hike or to while away cosy evenings together in front of your favourite programme on TV. Stroll through to the kitchen, which is next to the dining area, to brew cups of tea to enjoy with a slice of delicious Lake District gingerbread. Also find all you need in here to help you whip up tasty meals to sit down to together at the table. When you are ready for a good night's sleep, amble through to either the king-size bedroom or the twin. There is also a good-sized family bathroom where you can treat yourself to a hot soak. Have breakfast out on the shared patio on summer mornings or open a bottle of wine and sit out in the evening as the sun goes down. Enjoy long walks along the western shore of picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake. Explore Dodd Wood (3 miles) with its many footpaths and panoramic views. Venture into vibrant Keswick to stock up on produce, dine out and see a show at the Theatre by the Lake. Pick up the 10-mile-long, scenic Derwentwater Path here, which runs right round the lake.
