You’ll have a fabulous choice of walks directly from your front door, through the spectacular Derbyshire countryside. The village has great links with the traffic-free Monsal Trail, and is also just 3 miles from Bakewell, the Peak District’s epicentre for outdoor activities. For a slice of history, head to 900-year-old Haddon Hall (5.5 miles).

After a long walk, curl up on the sofa in the lounge in front of the wood burner with a cuppa and a good book. The village has one of the most photographed bridges in the country – Sheepwash Bridge – so be sure to pay it a visit for a game of Pooh sticks or a peaceful picnic on the nearby grassy riverbank. There are endless walking trails branching out from the village, including to the popular beauty spot of Monsal Head (2 miles), where you can marvel at the impressive views down the valley, towards the iconic viaduct. Spend a fascinating afternoon at Haddon Hall, exploring the untouched interiors dating back to the 14th century and the spectacular Elizabethan gardens.
