But if you’d prefer to stay tucked away, enjoy a sumptuous soak in your very own private hot tub overlooking glorious hillside and valley views. The property, which is part of a small complex, is accessed via a quiet, private lane and a steep path. Set out all on one level in an open-plan style, the lodge has a cosy and intimate feel; spend evenings cooking up a storm in the kitchen and dining at the table overlooking the double doors to the balcony, or on sunny evenings head out there to dine alfresco. There’s also a BBQ here if you prefer sizzling up a feast. Explore the rockery-style garden that surrounds the lodge before winding down for bed. Tucked away in an alcove with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, the bedroom offers a tranquil night’s sleep, while the shower room sits adjacent. Pay a visit to Farmers’ Welsh Lavender (11 miles), where you can wander the stunning setting or even go wild swimming in their pond before picking up some lovely products in the shop. Enjoy a half-day trip on the River Wye with Celtic Canoes (22.5 miles), starting in Glasbury and finishing in Hay-on-Wye. Make sure you pay a separate visit to this town, (26.5 miles), world-renowned for books and bookshops, and wander the pretty streets and banks of the river.
