Built in the 1850s, the house is an impressive example of Scots Baronial style, with turreted walls and gables, nestled in 5,000 acres of rolling park and moorland amid the atmospheric Scottish Borders. From the centuries-old stone walls that surround the gardens to the flagged floors and vaulted ceilings, this property is a romantic hideaway that will make you feel like you’re living in a fairy tale. Inside, the rooms have been elegantly and lovingly designed. The first stop is the open-plan living space, with a seating and dining area perfect for socialising together at the end of a day’s exploring. This room opens out via a pair of French doors to a cobbled courtyard and is located next to the kitchen, which is an unusual space with an exposed curved brick ceiling. Head upstairs to find a lovely gallery space, a perfect pitstop to catch your breath or read some Scottish history. Continue through into your bedrooms: a four-poster double is your master, complete with en-suite shower room, and a sweet twin also has its own bathroom, so there’ll be no fighting in the mornings.
