Starling Cottage offers cosy holiday accommodation in Spittal, Berwick-upon-Tweed for up to four guests looking to explore the award-winning Northumberland Coast and the Scottish Borders. This lovely, single-storey, two bedroom cottage is situated in the heart of Spittal village, just round the corner from the village shop and only two minutes walk from the beach and promenade The cottage had two bedrooms; a master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite bathroom and a twin bedroom with chest of drawers and a cupboard with hanging space next to a separate shower room. The lounge/dining room has a two seater sofa and two rush-seated armchairs, a small TV with Netflix, a good collection of local books, maps and guides, a chest of board games, an upright piano which guests are welcome to use and a dining table and chairs. The kitchen offers all the essentials with a door leading out to the pretty courtyard. The outdoor sitting area is a real sun trap, a great place to relax on bright days from spring through to autumn. From the cottage, you can walk along the riverside into Berwick in 20 minutes and there is also a 2 per-hour bus service that will take you to Berwick’s train station. For a great day out, catch a train from Berwick to Edinburgh, sit back, relax and enjoy the coastal scenery. Berwick-upon-Tweed has a nice selection of shops, galleries, craft shops, restaurants and friendly pubs, in addition to the surrounding golden beaches, beautiful, scenic river walks. There are plenty of enjoyable things to do and see for all the family. Enjoy a day out by bike to Holy Island, along the traffic free Sustrans Route 1. In fact, the cottage is located on both this cycle route and the new Sandstone Trail for mountain bikers. Secure bike storage, a pump and basic bike tools are available at the cottage by prior arrangement. By Car, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle, beach and popular village are all within 30 minutes of the cottage and are well worth a visit! Also, the coastal villages of Seahouses, Beadnell and Embleton lie to the south of Bamburgh. If you would like to explore a little further inland, you can visit the Dark Skies Northumberland National Park and the quaint villages of Ford and Etal have a lovely steam railway, Castle and lots of great family activities. This cottage accepts up to two well behaved dogs.
