While you’re there, make an emotive pitstop at the National Trust’s Workhouse, the most complete surviving workhouse in England. Further afield, go into Nottingham (14.5 miles) to explore its castle, or let the kids go wild in the play areas at Sherwood Pines Forest Park (10 miles). Closer to home, head off for a round at Norwood’s golf course and then stop off in the clubhouse for a drink or two.
