The undulating landscape to the Bronze Age stone circle of Mitchell’s Fold (3.5 miles) is set in dramatic moorland on Stapeley Hill and is worth exploring. Alternatively, strike out to the wild surroundings of the quartzite ridge of the Stiperstones, 5 miles away. For a bit of retail therapy, head into the market town of Shrewsbury (15 miles) to stock up on local produce, dine out and visit the red sandstone castle.
