Don't miss the chance to cross the top bridge, which offers amazing views over the falls below. Alternatively, head into Hawkshead (3 miles) to admire its whitewashed cottages and learn all about Beatrix Potter. Further afield, hire a row boat to venture out onto the waters of England's longest lake at Bowness-on-Windermere (8.5 miles).
