Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons, managed by the National Trust, provides sweeping views, grazing cattle, and even a golf course for those keen to tee off. Walkers are spoilt for choice here, with a network of scenic footpaths winding through pretty valleys and across open grassland. For day trips, the Cotswolds’ most beloved towns and cities are all within easy reach: Cirencester, with its Roman history; stylish Cheltenham; elegant Bath; and the characterful market town of Tetbury (all within 28 miles). History and garden lovers can take their pick from the area’s many National Trust properties, while Westonbirt Arboretum (9 miles) is a must-see.
