History buffs will love exploring Falkland Palace (8 miles), a Renaissance treasure with royal connections and beautifully kept gardens. Fancy a day on the coast? Drive to St Andrews (14 miles) – with its world-famous Old Course – or tour the East Neuk of Fife, where quaint fishing villages, hidden coves and the Fife Coastal Path promise plenty of seaside charm.
