You can also board a heritage train from Pickering and chug to Whitby (21 miles by car) for an excellent beach, intriguing shops, seafood restaurants and the 13th-century Whitby Abbey. The coastal resorts of Scarborough and Filey are both within 20.5 miles, while the grand stately home of Castle Howard is just 14 miles away.
