An exquisite hideaway on the fringes of Broughton, this enticing Scottish retreat is simply idyllic for couples. Sleeping two guests and welcoming one dog, this converted barn offers inviting, studio-style accommodation with magnificent views. Return from walks through rolling Tweeddale to bask beside the wood burner or relax in the private garden. Head into the vibrant community of Biggar (5.5 miles) to explore the wide range of independent shops, dip into The Biggar Gallery and dine in one of several pubs, cafes and restaurants. Plan a hike up Tinto Hill, 12.5 miles away, with its splendid views out over the Clyde Valley. While away an afternoon at the 65-acre Dawyck Botanic Garden (5 miles), home to one of Scotland’s finest tree collections and featuring some of Britain’s oldest and tallest trees. The charming town of Peebles, 13.5 miles away on the banks of the River Tweed, is also worth visiting. Enter via a short ramp up to the front door to find a delightful, open-plan space with a high-vaulted ceiling and beams. Hang your coats and slip your walking boots or wellies off by the rack before you enter the lounge/kitchen/diner/bedroom. There are slippers available in the wicker box under the bench. The stylish kitchen, with its wooden work surfaces and ample storage, has been fitted out with everything you are likely to need to help you rustle up delicious meals for two during your stay. Carry your tasty dishes of Scottish delicacies over to the table by the picture window at the end of the barn and enjoy them as you gaze out at the scenery. The wood burner sits at the centre of the open-plan space, where it throws out a cosy glow across the whole room during the autumn and winter months. Relax close by on the comfortable seating to read your books or chat about your adventures. Enjoy a steaming shower in the large walk-in cubicle in the shower room near the kitchen area. At the end of each fabulous day, treat yourselves to a superb night’s sleep in the double bed. Sit outside in the Mediterranean-style garden to the front of the barn and dine at the table or open a bottle of chilled wine on warm evenings. Watch and admire the free-range bantam hens when they come to visit. Please keep the dog on a lead at all times in the garden. There is private off-road parking here for one car. The Barn@Llolans is only 50 minutes from the free 24hour Park&Ride where you can take an express bus into the centre of Edinburgh in 20 minutes. The Barn is a perfect retreat from the hectic but exciting buzz of the Edinburgh Festival.
