Conveniently close to the A9, the north of Scotland is easily accessible, making Smithy Cottage a perfect touring base. The east coast towns of St Andrews, Dundee and Arbroath are within easy reach, as is the beautiful sandy beach at St Cyrus, renowned for its wildlife reserve and dramatic coastal views. Pitlochry, just 20 minutes north, is home to the Festival Theatre, a wide choice of cafés and shops, and Edradour Distillery — the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland. A little further north lie Blair Atholl and the famous House of Bruar, known for quality Scottish food, clothing and gifts. Glen Shee and Braemar are easily reached via Blairgowrie, making the area ideal for winter sports, hillwalking and scenic drives.
